Wow, it's been quite some time since my last
records review. Not too bad, there's not that much new stuff on my desk. I'll give a quick tour.
First of all, there was
Diva Int., with a self-entitled album, indie-dance pop from Hamburg. (6)
Next came
Chad Vangaalen, a singer-songwriter in the style of Badly Drawn Boy, but even more arty. (6)
Brian Setzer's "13" was already reviewed on
plattentests.de. Nice rockabilly, but nothing more. (5)
United with "Slick", also already reviewed, is a mix of Interpol/Joy Division with modern indie-pop. Quite nice. (7)
Love is all don't play "Nine times that same song" -- female punk-rock mixed with indie-pop (again), that sounds like the female answer to Art Brut. (7)
Finally, my review of
The Long Blondes "Someone to drive you home" should hit plattentests today. (5)
I should have done
Zox, "The wait", but my copy arrived to late, so Armin did the review. I wasn't too disappointed -- Zox indie pop is sometimes rather lame. (5)
There were also
The Be Good Tanyas with "Hello love", which is a female more folk-oriented band, somewhere between the Beautiful South and Penelope Houston. We were stacked with records at the time, so no review. (5)
Besides these, I bought the following ones:
Thursday, "A city by the light divided": I have no idea what the current style tag for this kind of music is, but it's somewhere between emo and gothic, I would think. There are quite some nice songs on the album but it can get on your nerves quickly when you're not in the right mood. (6)
The Killers, "Sam's Town" -- what a disappointment. I really liked there first record, but Sam's Town features to many (boring) heavy rock riffs and far too few relaxed tunes. (5)
